BioCORE Scholars
The BioCORE Scholars program supports first-generation students and those traditionally underrepresented in biological and biomedical sciences. This innovative program builds community, creates pathways for students to excel, and develops leaders.
Please help us continue to support our present and future BioCORE Scholars with a gift today.
The comprehensive cost of this program is $2,500 per student. What your donation supports:
- $10 buys a coffee card to help a peer mentor meet with a scholar.
- $50 pays for one weekly review session with a learning assistant for scholars.
- $100 provides funds for “pizza with purpose” meetings with Seattle scientists.
- $150 subsidizes one scholar’s stay at our Blakely Island retreat to do field research.
- $500 pays for a scholar to work in a faculty research lab during research week.
- $2,500 funds all costs for one scholar to complete the two-year program!
The BioCORE Scholars program provides academic intervention and leadership training for underrepresented students in the biological sciences. Scholars attend weekly academic training sessions led by learning assistants, meet monthly with peer mentors to address challenges, attend quarterly meetings with community leaders of color, and engage in a weeklong research project with biology and chemistry faculty. As upper-class students, scholars serve as learning assistants and peer mentors while helping coordinate the program to hone their leadership skills. This successful program strives for equity in STEM by developing academically prepared leaders to serve as agents of change.
